He was lucky enough to land a job at Goose Island in Chicago, bartending and interning in the brewhouse. Joe started home brewing way back in 2009 and loved it so much, he left his career in financial sector and dedicated his life to his passion. Our selection of Vinifera and French hybrids vines will ripen and produce the sugars, tannins, colors, flavors to create a superior glass of wine on the Eastern Continental Divide. Some grapes varietals from other regions will not ripen in our Mountainous climate. Our Grape varietals were selected to thrive in our rocky, sandy, loam soil and our cool mountainous climate. For over six generations, our family has cultivated fruits and vegetables in Henderson County. Sawyer Springs Vineyard & Winery is a family-owned and operated vineyard in the AVA Crest of Blue Ridge Henderson County. At full production in 2022 we expect to produce 1500 -2000 cases per year from our boutique winery. They include three whites Gruner Veltliner, Riesling and Vidal Blanc along with five reds Cynthiana (Norton), Blaufrankish (Lemberger), Regent, Saperavi, and Cabernet Franc with approximately one acre planted of each varietal. ![]() Our current grape varietals which originate from Austria, Eastern Europe, Germany, and Russia are primarily cooler climate varietals growing at higher altitudes with shorter growing seasons. ![]() The vineyard consists of approximately 6000 plants with over 1250 posts and 200,000 feet of trellis wire. The current property is 35 acres of which 8 acres are currently under vine with another 5 acres planned for future development. So began their story to pursue a second lifelong passion: grape growing and winemaking. ![]() With a shared vision in 2010, Craig and Tina Little started to imagine an estate vineyard similar to those of the great growing regions of France. The tasting room includes Jackson’s espresso and coffee paired with food items. The reds are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Rosé, Petit Verdot, Cliffield (a red blend), and Javine, a coffee and chocolate infused red that is a nod to the owner’s Jackson’s Java coffee shops in Charlotte. The ten wines offered include six reds and four whites. Point Lookout Vineyards is situated at 3,000 feet above sea level, with a panoramic views of mountains, vineyards and farmland. ![]()
